My smile is lit up with childlike wonder as I remember the child I once was. So young, naive, and full of hope. The world was mine and I could achieve anything my eight year old heart wanted. As a child I belived in pixi dust, flying fairies, and a superhero named, Peter Pan. He was the leading man in my life. The one I put above anyone and as soon as I got home from school I’d fly off to Neverland. The imagination of a child, child like faith. Isn't it grand? My childhood was anything but normal growing up. It was a great example of dysfunctional at its finest. I needed an escape, an outlet, a place only I could go. No one could hurt me there. I was always the free spirit child, so I found myself drawn towards Peter Pan. He did as he pleased and stood up for the underdogs, the lost boys. He stood up for what was right. Before bedtime I would leave my window open half ways and hope Peter Pan would fly thru and whisk me away to Neverland and i’d never have to return home to my reality of life. He only came to open windows after all. Peter Pan never came to my window. Times changed, life happened and I grew up. The magic pixi dust was now long gone and my window was closed. By now you may be laughing reminiscing of your own childhood memories or wiping your eyes thinking of the child you once were. I tell you this story because, how many of us can relate to this with our relationship with God? I know I can. When things don't happen like there supposed to and were left hurt, feeling sad, lonely or abandon, what do we tend to do? We shut the window on the one person who cares about us and that's God. We lose our childlike faith. Instead of leaving the window open for God, we tend to leave it shut on God and that is human instinct. In the book of Matthew god talks about us needing to keep our childlike faith. Matthew 18:3; “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." Childlike faith is easier shown as a child believing in magic and the unknow, compared to a grown adult already having experienced the world and the hurt it comes with. Children know innocence, love and beauty. Adults know hurt, frustration and confusion the world comes with. Children have faith in what they do not see and as adults we need this as well. "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." Hebrews 11:1 Let yourself be memorized by the little things in your grown up life. Keep the faith knowing god is still there guiding your every step. Learn to trust again, no matter how much you've been hurt. Don’t allow yourself to think negative about the world around you. See life as an adventure waiting to be sought out after. Today lets be brave, full of childlike wonder and open that window again. Let the magic happen. God’s right there waiting to come in.
