![]() It was a Chilly November night and I was glammed up. I arrived at my friend Rachel's birthday party and was ready for a fun night! There was this cute boy she had been telling me about named "Charlie". She said he is perfect for you! I got to the party and saw all of my school friends arriving. At this point in my life I had never had a real boyfriend but I sure had read about how love and romance worked. At this stage in life I was addicted to these books by the Author Lori Wick and I had just read the infamous " A Walk to Remember" I could not wait until I had my first boyfriend and until I was someones girlfriend. As we sat and talked I waited for this guy " Charlie' to arrive. I was talking with my friend Abby when all of a sudden this blonde hair, blue eyed, cutie walked through the door. My jaw literally dropped. Rachel whispered "That's Him". He was a cute southern boy wearing blue jeans, boots and a Carolina Tarheel t-shirt. He introduced himself and we hit off. Later that night, the lights when down in the Rachel's living room and couples paired off. It was me and Charlie. I scooted close to this boy and let him put his arm around me. I got tons of Butterflies! Soooo....... I thought to myself this is awesome! After the party was over Charlie got my number and we talked on the phone and went on two basketball game dates. It was fun but the more he talked about me being his girlfriend the more I felt like I would have to change myself. Charlie never implied that I would have to change, it was just this insecurity inside me that I was not good enough. I wanted to be validated and loved by Charlie but he just did not fill that void... and I did not know at the time what would but he certainly did not meet it. I have come across a lot of girls in my lifetime just like me that want to be wanted by a guy. They want to be loved and validated. They want to be someone's girl friend. Media, culture and sometimes christian influences make us feel like we have to have a guy to be able to be a whole person. I often thought through my teenage years as I like different guys " If I was his girlfriend"..... my life would be perfect, I would fit in more, I would feel loved, i will be complete. When really that thought and mentality is lie. We don't have to have a guy in our lives to be someone awesome. I want you girls to know that you can go through high school and not have a boyfriend and be just fine! It doesn't mean you won't ever find that Great Love. When I was in High school I came across this verse and have memorized it! Songs of Solomon 2:7 " Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you by the gazelles and by the does of the field: Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires. I love this verse so much because it challenges us to not awaken love until it so desires. Now I am not telling you to not date. But what I am telling you is to wait. Wait until you are ready, pray about who your are going to date. If you choose date someone are you dating them just to date them or do you honestly see a future with this person. But whatever you do DON'T BUY INTO A LIE THAT LOVE WILL SOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS! Because the only GREAT LOVE THAT CAN SOLVE ALL OF YOUR PROBLEMS IS ALREADY THERE WITH YOU! He is WAITING, PURSUING YOU AND WANTING YOU TO RESPOND! SO.... What are you waiting for???
