Casting ALL of Our Cares

Why is it that we so often forget just how much God truly loves us? If you’re anything like me, you have bought into the lie that God doesn’t care about the small things in your life.

1 Peter 5:6-7, "Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your care on Him, because He cares about you."

I have read this verse hundreds of times, but it took me until now to realize that in my own mind I had replaced the word ‘all’ with the word ‘some’. I wasn’t giving all of my cares and anxieties to God; I was giving Him the ones that I thought were important or big enough. The absolutely beautiful thing about our Lord is that even in His infinite power and holiness, He still cares about the smallest of our cares. We aren’t told to bring only our hurt, sadness, and brokenness, we are told to bring everything. So bring your joys, bring your smiles, bring your tears; bring your celebrations, bring your deepest fears, place it all at the foot of the cross. What if we talked to God just as much as we talked to our best friend? What would that look like? What comfort it is to know that the creator of the entire universe cares about how happy that cupcake made me, or how embarrassed I was when I tripped over my own feet (for the tenth time that day), or how much my heart ached when I had to say goodbye to someone that I cherished so much. Friends, He knows, He cares, and He is big enough to hold every aspect of your life.

The other key thing to remember is two words: “proper time”. God may remove things in our lives that we desperately long for because He knows that this is not the right time or it is not a part of His plan. As painful as this can be, we must remember that He is for us and has a plan greater than anything we could ever imagine. Trust him, rest in His promises. Romans 8:28 says, “We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.” He meets all of our needs and all of these things that we experience, even the smallest most mundane things are knitted together for our good.

Bring it all to Him, trust that His plan is perfect, pray without ceasing. What an incredible and faithful God we serve. My challenge to you as you go about this week is to take notice of even the smallest things in life and bring them before the Lord with faith that He hears you and cares about you more than you could ever imagine.

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
