Love Is All You Need

My smile is lit up with childlike wonder as I remember the child I once was. So young, naive, and full of hope. The world was mine and I could achieve anything my eight year old heart wanted. As a child I belived in pixi dust, flying fairies, and a superhero named, Peter Pan. He was the leading man in my life. The one I put above anyone and as soon as I got home from school I’d fly off to Neverland. The imagination of a child, child like faith. Isn't it grand?

My childhood was anything but normal growing up. It was a great example of dysfunctional at its finest. I needed an escape, an outlet, a place only I could go. No one could hurt me there. I was always the free spirit child, so I found myself drawn towards Peter Pan. He did as he pleased and stood up for the underdogs, the lost boys. He stood up for what was right.

Before bedtime I would leave my window open half ways and hope Peter Pan would fly thru and whisk me away to Neverland and i’d never have to return home to my reality of life. He only came to open windows after all. Peter Pan never came to my window. Times changed, life happened and I grew up. The magic pixi dust was now long gone and my window was closed.

By now you may be laughing reminiscing of your own childhood memories or wiping your eyes thinking of the child you once were. I tell you this story because, how many of us can relate to this with our relationship with God? I know I can. When things don't happen like there supposed to and were left hurt, feeling sad, lonely or abandon, what do we tend to do? We shut the window on the one person who cares about us and that's God. We lose our childlike faith. Instead of leaving the window open for God, we tend to leave it shut on God and that is human instinct.

In the book of Matthew god talks about us needing to keep our childlike faith.

Matthew 18:3; “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."

Childlike faith is easier shown as a child believing in magic and the unknow, compared to a grown adult already having experienced the world and the hurt it comes with. Children know innocence, love and beauty. Adults know hurt, frustration and confusion the world comes with. Children have faith in what they do not see and as adults we need this as well.

"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." Hebrews 11:1

Let yourself be memorized by the little things in your grown up life. Keep the faith knowing god is still there guiding your every step. Learn to trust again, no matter how much you've been hurt. Don’t allow yourself to think negative about the world around you. See life as an adventure waiting to be sought out after.

Today lets be brave, full of childlike wonder and open that window again. Let the magic happen. God’s right there waiting to come in.

The Simplest yet Greatest Truth- The Gospel

Hello Worth More girls;

I am Laura Schulte! For my first post, I wanted to go back to the basics and share with you all something that sits upon my heart. Each day, I preach the Gospel to myself and I want to share with you all why. So, let’s start with a little preface. The message of the Gospel is one that you’ve most likely heard before a multitude of times. But I pray that this blog post does not fall upon clogged ears or rolled eyes. Instead, I challenge you to truly ponder the events of the Gospel—soak up their meaning once more and re-explore their depth. The Gospel is powerful. And while it may have been shared a million times before, each time it’s told, the same power is carried with it.

The Message:

As the Bible illustrates in Genesis, there was great sin that entered the world. Throughout the Old Testament, people lived under a strict law of rules and sacrifices. People would sacrifice animals to God to atone for their sins. In the New Testament, the story of the Jesus comes into play. God sends His only Son as a sacrifice to fulfill all sacrifices and the Mosaic Law. As John 3:16 states, “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” (NLT). This first part of this verse starts off by revealing God’s motive for sending His Son, Jesus Christ—His love. God’s love for us, His creation, is perfect and unfailing. His love is so great that it compelled Him to give over His perfect Son, so we may find freedom and forgiveness in Him.

The second piece of this verse illustrates the action God took—He sent His only Son to earth. While Jesus was on earth, He did not sin once. Yet, He was crucified on the cross as if He did. While on that cross, Jesus took on all of the sins of the world. God poured out all of His wrath and judgement on to His Son, whilst on the cross. Therefore, when we believe in Jesus’ son, as the third section of the verse states, we can find perfection and forgiveness and freedom in Christ.

As Romans 10:9-10 states, “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved” (NLT). Today, all we need to do is believe in Christ and His actions to be saved from death and judgement. Three days after His crucifixion, Jesus rose from the grave. This miracle defeated death for believers once and for all. Jesus is alive today; and through believing in Him, we can be alive in Christ!

Simply, that is the message of the Gospel: Christ’s life, crucifixion, and resurrection. God’s love is evident throughout the entire Gospel. The God that created you, and created the entire earth, and all that’s in it, cared enough about you to sacrifice His Son. I find that fact to be beautiful and incredible. Romans 5:8 further emphasizes this point, “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” (NLT). The beginning of this verse again states God’s love as a motive for His actions. His love for us is always present. The second part of the verse states God’s actions—sending Christ. I cannot find enough words to express how incredible this gift is. Through Christ we are given the gift of life itself and along with it we can dwell in the presence, peace, love, and joy of the Lord. The last part of this verse is the cherry on top; it states, “[…] while we were still sinners”. While the first part of the verse shows the eternal presence of God’s love, the third part describes the unconditional part of God’s love. We have not done anything to earn His love, yet His love for us is great! I see this as a relief, as a comfort, as a sign of God’s grace and mercy. God knows we are sinner and flawed, but still thought that we were worth dying for. Even more so, He thought that we were worth living for—a life we could live eternally alongside Him.

I pray that none of us become comfortable or complacent when hearing the Gospel. The facts of the Gospel, the Good News, are soaked with God’s great love for His creation. This message is the most precious and greatest gift humans can ever have. I remind myself of this message everyday with two main goals in mind. First, I want to fix my eyes on Christ. I remind myself of why I am living and who gave me life—Christ. This way, I understand that He is my source of strength, allowing myself to be dependent on Him. Second, I find this powerful message provides perspective on life. I remind myself of the essential and pertinent nature of the Gospel, praying that it will give me the boldness I need to share it.

Whatever You Do

I go through phases a lot. Now these aren’t always pronounced phases that are hugely noticeable to those around me, such as if I changed the color of my hair from brown to purple to blonde, but they are still marked by change. For example, during the first few months of 2016 I ordered tea every time I went to Starbucks, but now I’m back to ordering coffee every time. Sometimes I’ll get on a Pilates kick for a few weeks, but right now I’m hitting the cardio machines at the gym. I’m guessing you experience similar changes in preferences in your own life, whether they’re bigger or smaller than my examples. Shifting out of the school year and into summer, my daily activities and preferences are changing a lot, so that’s had me thinking about something that I’d like to share with you girls. Regardless of where we are in life and what we’re doing, we are called on to glorify God through it all.

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
1 Corinthians 10:31

I think it’s easier to remember this verse during monumental moments and even during hard seasons of life. However, its truth persists even in our typical everyday routines. Whether I’m drinking tea or coffee, I am to honor God. Whether I’m staying up late doing homework, or sleeping in and spending my day with my nose in a good book, God commands me to bring glory to Him through it. As we experience changes in routine or preference, we must make sure our focus does not shift off of God’s glory. In my transition to summer, I have to intentionally think about how to glorify God through my free time.

Be careful that you don’t fall into the trap of thinking this verse is commanding you to do nothing from the time you wake up until you go to sleep except for reading your Bible and praying. The message of this verse is far from that! What it’s telling us is that whether we’re with friends, alone, reading, watching a movie, or shopping, we are to do that activity in such a way that God is honored. When we’re with friends that can look like having conversations about topics that please God, and encouraging each other. Or it may look like you reading a book or watching a movie that does not contain inappropriate content and language. It may look like you shopping for modest clothing and being kind and encouraging to the employees in the stores you are in. Girls, whatever you are doing, think about how that activity can be done in a way to bring glory to God! And just a tip, if you can’t think of a way to glorify God with a specific activity, it may be an activity you should stay away from altogether.

I encourage you to try to make 1 Corinthians 10:31 something you think about throughout the day. In my own life, I notice my whole attitude is better on the days my mindset is focused on glorifying God! Write this verse down and stick it on your mirror, in your car, your journal, or somewhere else you’ll see it often!
