Where can we go that God cannot? What can we do that God cannot see? What can we go through that
God is not with us?
The answer: Nowhere and nothing.
I bet you have a best friend. They may be related to you or they may not. I bet if you do not have a best
friend at this moment, you have had one. I bet you have somebody in your life that knows you better
than anyone else, maybe even yourself. I bet sometimes, even though you love them, you wish you
were not so transparent. They see you, they know if you’re sad, and they know how to cheer you up. I
bet sometimes you forget that God can do that too and He does wholeheartedly. The best part is, He’s
God, which means you can be yourself and He will never leave or get bored. (Yes. Even if you act
awkward in public situations or are not the captain of the volleyball team, He will love you and be there
for you. He’s cool like that.) So, if you find yourself in one of those situations where you are going
through something difficult and maybe it feels like you are the only one who understands, here are
some great words about your Heavenly best friend.
1 You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive
my thoughts from afar. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my
ways. 4 Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. 5 You hem me in behind and
before, and you lay your hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me
to attain. 7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? 8 If I go up to the
heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. 9 If I rise on the wings of the
dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, 10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will
hold me fast. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” 12
even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to
This is a very powerful Psalm and I have made it my Power Psalm. This passage has some very profound truths about the God we interact with daily. These words tell us that not only is God our Creator and Stronghold, but He is also our Best Friend! You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. He knows us! He did not stop with creating us, He forms a relationship with us. He is not only watching over you, He is actively participating in your life. He knows your way of speech, He knows your favorite movies, and He rejoices in your accomplishments. He was there during your worst times to lift you up and He was there when you were on top of the world sharing your grin. There is not one place you have gone that He was not there with you. The icing on the cake? He even sees your sin and loves you through it. In fact, He knows what you struggle with in your walk and He sees every stumble, yet He loves you unconditionally.
That floors me. After what I’ve done to Him? After what I’ve done to Jesus, His son?? He cares about
ME? He wants to have an intimate relationship with ME? I am a speck. I am nothing. Yet God knows me.
For example, it is like you are walking down the street and [insert favorite celebrity here] sees you and
says “Hey, I know you!” and then proceeds to talk to you all day long. You sit there thinking, “What are
they doing with me? They could be doing literally anything right now, yet, they’re taking the time to get
to know little ol’ me!” Except God does not see us that way! We are His creation! Later on in the
passage, it goes on to say that we are “…fearfully and wonderfully made…” He takes the time to create
us so uniquely. I find it mind blowing that the God of the universe took time to make me. That makes me
feel special and priceless. That makes me feel like I am worth so much more than what the world tells
me. I have a purpose because God put me here.
If you read the rest of the chapter, there is much more you can find out about our Creator and His love
for you. I hope you find hope in this passage. Do you have a Power Psalm? If so, the Worth More Team
and I would love to hear it! Share it with us!
